Pelham community centre lands $400,000 in support

PELHAM — The fundraising efforts for Pelham’s new $36.2 million community centre.

Last week the city held an event recognizing the first three donors to the community fundraising campaign that will fill a $3 million hole in the construction budget of the currently-under-construction centre. In total $400,000 worth of donations were announced last week from three donors: Trillium Mutual Insurance Company to the tune of $25,000; Duliban Insurance for $125,000; and Accipiter Radar Technologies Inc. for $250,000.

“This sort of signifies the start,” said Mayor Dave Augustyn, explaining the three gifts point to the excitement and support in the community for the project that will bring a new twin-pad arena and other community facilities to east Fonthill.

Amazing Community Support!

Last Thursday, we celebrated two very generous local family businesses for donating significant funds to support the new Pelham Community Centre.

Thanks to the incredible generosity of Dr. Tim Nohara and his company, Accipiter Radar Technologies, “Arena A” will be named the “Accipiter Arena.” Accipiter donated $250,000 to the Community Centre’s capital fundraising campaign. The Accipiter Arena will feature an NHL-size ice surface with a 1,000-seat spectator area. This arena will be capable of hosting major sporting events, tradeshows, concerts, and other commercial affairs.

Dr. Nohara re-located Accipiter Radar Technologies from Waterloo to Pelham in 1995 and, through hard work and diligence, developed the company into a global leader in advanced avian and security radar technologies.
