Thanks A Million, Pelham! Donor Announcement
PELHAM – May 12, 2017 – PRESS RELEASE
The Town of Pelham announced that over $1 million in gifts have been confirmed to the Pelham Community Centre’s (PCC) $3 million dollar fundraising campaign. An intimate celebration event was held on May 11, 2017, at Peninsula Lakes Golf Club to recognize several respected community leaders and organizations for their outstanding generosity.
The Pelham Community Centre will become central to the community fabric of Pelham and the Niagara Region. This multi-purpose lifestyle hub will offer Pelham residents an opportunity to engage in sports & athletics, personal wellness classes, art activities, and community events in a state-of-the art 143,000 sq ft facility, opening in 2018 at the corner of HWY 20 and Rice Road.
“We are thrilled to be able to contribute and give back to our community in such a tangible way,” said Dr. Gary Accursi. “We eagerly look forward to attending many events at the new Pelham Community Centre.”
“We have been involved in the Pelham community for a long time,” said Doug Burr. “As passionate hockey fans, we know that the Pelham Community Centre will make a great difference to many of our region’s avid players and my own old-timers league.”
The new Centre is currently in the first phase of the capital and community fundraising campaign, with a goal to raise $3 million of the $36.2 million needed to complete the construction of the Pelham Community Centre.
“As a Pelham-based sports organization servicing our youth, we are honoured to be able to contribute to the facility that will become a home base for our teams,” said Todd Major, president of the Pelham Minor Hockey Association. “We cannot wait to train on the two NHL-sized ice pads, and utilize the rest of the facility as members of this community.”
“Willowbrook Nurseries has a strong desire for giving back to the community,” said John Langendoen, founder of the Fenwick-based family nursery business. “By supporting this initiative, we are making our community a more beautiful place to live and grow.”
Each donor’s gift will be recognized through the naming of principal spaces within the Centre including: Dr. Gary and Mall Accursi Banquet, Theatre and Multi-Purpose Community Room and surrounding area, Pelham Minor Hockey Plaza and Entrance, Community of Lookout Ridge Walking Track, Mountainview Homes Upper Arena Lobby, Kinsmen Community Room, Willowbrook Nurseries Entrance, Walker Industries Viewing Galleria, Bissell’s Hideaway Upper Bridge, Daniel & Partners LLP Concession Lounge, Doug and Susan Burr Lower Arena Lobby, and the Robert and Patricia Laing Family Change Rooms, which were all unveiled at the event.
“We believe that the Pelham Community Centre will become an important focal point for the community,” said Robert and Patricia Laing. “We are pleased to be able to contribute and support this worthy project.”
“As a community-based organization, we feel strongly about supporting the Pelham Community Centre, which will provide tremendous opportunities for youth and those with young families here in Pelham and the surrounding area.” said Doug Freeland, spokesperson of the Kinsmen Club of Fonthill & District. “This naming opportunity is a fantastic way to continue the Kinsmen legacy of supporting our local community and our ongoing pledge to promote and support the communities greatest needs since 1951.”
The capital fundraising campaign will continue until all major spaces in the new PCC have been named. Following the capital fundraising campaign, the community fundraising campaign phase will get under way in late 2017 or early 2018.
“Town Council and I deeply appreciate the generosity of these amazing donors,” Said Mayor Dave.
“Their significant gifts demonstrate the broad community support for the new Pelham Community Centre and for the cultural and recreational vibrancy of the Town.”
It is the goal of the campaign that every community member will have an opportunity to contribute to this once-in-a-lifetime project by pledging his or her support for the Pelham Community Centre project. Updates and details are available at www.ourpcc.ca.
